I love an apple and cashew nuts served together. I like to have them in my porridge for breakfast, or along with fruit and coconut cream for dessert. They are also very delicious in halwa. Halwa can be served as dessert or sweet dinner. It is very filling, and quick to cook. Halwa is great with almost everything: dried or fresh fruit, nuts, spices, cocoa, jam - whatever you like. |
You need:
2 cups semolina
2,5 cups plant milk or water
2 medium apples, diced
1,5 cups cashew nuts
1 cup brown sugar
0,5 teaspoon allspice powder
0,5 teaspoon cinnamon powder
Method:
1. In a frying pan roast the semolina until brown. Stir often as it’s easy to burn it. Add apples and cashew nuts and roast for 1 minute.
2. Combine the milk / water, sugar, cinnamon, and allspice in a saucepan. Place it at a moderate heat and bring to the boil.
3. Put the roasted semolina into the syrup, stirring steadily. Keep for a while on a very low heat, mix precisely.
4. When the consistency is thick, turn off the heating. Add more milk if desired.
5. Serve hot or warm.
